Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is our highest priority.

Our commitment

Cricket Tikes operates in full compliance with the ECB’s “Safe Hands — Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children” and all relevant UK legislation. We are committed to providing an environment that is safe, welcoming, and inclusive for every child, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, religion, or background.

Every individual involved in coaching at Cricket Tikes is recruited, vetted, trained, and supported in accordance with ECB guidelines and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) framework. Safeguarding is not a box-ticking exercise for us — it is embedded in how we operate, every session, every term.

Our standards

DBS & Vetting

Every coach holds a current Enhanced DBS check through the ECB disclosure process. No individual works unsupervised with children without full vetting clearance. All DBS checks are renewed in accordance with ECB requirements.

Safeguarding Training

All coaches complete ECB Safeguarding Level 2 training (renewed every three years) alongside role-specific modules for coaching children and young people. Jason Moore holds additional qualifications as an ECB Advanced Coach (Level 3).

First Aid & AED

Qualified first aiders are present at every session. All coaches hold current paediatric first aid certification with AED (automated external defibrillator) training. First aid equipment is available at all venues.

Insurance

Dual-layer insurance cover: Sportscover (underwritten by Liberty Specialty Markets) for the business, plus ECB Coaches Association cover through Allianz with a Zurich excess layer brokered through Kerry London. Total cover: £10M public liability, £10M employers liability, £1M professional indemnity. Documentation available on request.

Helmet & Equipment Safety

Academy players must have their own full safety kit — helmet with rear guard, pads, gloves, and box. We championed the rear guard standard before the ECB mandated it. Progressive ball types and equipment are matched to each child’s developmental stage. Zero overuse injuries across nine years of the programme.

Venue Safety

All venues undergo safeguarding, risk, and insurance assessments. Sessions at Merchant Taylors’ School benefit from the school’s own comprehensive facilities and safety infrastructure.

Reporting a concern

If you have any concerns about the welfare of a child at Cricket Tikes — whether about something you have seen, something a child has told you, or the behaviour of any adult — please raise it immediately. You will be taken seriously and treated with confidence.
